Supporting subject design through the transition to trimesters.
What is the STF?
The STF is a flexible resource to support subject design during 番茄社区’s calendar transition to trimesters and block study periods.
The STF consists of the following resources:
- Rationale
A brief background and rationale for 番茄社区’s calendar transition. - Process
A four-stage process (that is, Review, Design, Develop and Deliver) to refine and align subjects through the transition. - Principles and Values
A summary of formal 番茄社区 principles, values, and policies that guide course and subject design. - Guide and Resources
A checklist and set of resources for refining and aligning curriculum, assessment, and teaching and learning activities. - Templates (Trimester and Block Study Periods)
Templates to support subject design through the transition to trimesters and/or block study periods - Example Templates
Three examples that demonstrate differences between semester, trimester, and block study periods for a fictional subject. - Example Design Insights
Insights into design strategies based on the examples.
The STF follows a model that represents subject design as:
- An ongoing process (that is, Review, Design, Develop, Deliver)
- Purposeful and practicable (that is, Values, Principles, and Resources)
- Aligning and refining (that is, Curriculum, Assessment, and Teaching)
- Centred on students’ learning
Download and browse the STF resources
The STF can be used in different ways by individual subject coordinators of design teams. Choose how you would like to begin.
I want the whole package:
I just want the design template (to visually plan my subject):
My subject is going to Trimesters:

My subject is going to Block Study Periods mode:
