The Iplex Education Fund aims to support students at ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø to fill skills gaps in the development of future jobs for Townsville and research to create pathways for school leavers and support a diverse industry future including for Indigenous students.
The Iplex Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship offers support a student at ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø, complete their Bachelor of Engineering over three years of study.

The Iplex Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship is open for you to apply if you are:
- An Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and holders of a permanent visa; and
- Are enrolled full time in Bachelor of Engineering, majoring in Chemical or Mechanical engineering: and
- Have completed 24 credit points in your current course: and
- Have a minimum GPA of 4.0; and
- Be prepared to undertake work placement and casual employment with Iplex throughout duration of scholarship.
The value of the scholarship shall be $8,000 per year for up to 2 years. Payments will be made in two equal instalments after census date of Study Period 1 and Study Period 2. Please allow up to 6 weeks after census for payment. First payment will be made in 2024.

Applicants wanting to apply for this scholarship must attach the following documents to their application form.
- Academic record;
- One written reference; and
- Written statement of approx. 500 words discussing:
- Your career aspirations and why you have chosen this particular degree and major;
- Your study goals and commitment to your chosen program (you may like to provide an example of how you have overcome a challenge or difficult situation as demonstration of your transferrable skills);
- The impact this scholarship will have on your ability to attend university;
- Expectations of your work experience at Iplex and availability to participate in work experiences;
- What are your thoughts on the future of hydrogen energy as an alternative energy source OR a Sustainable Townsville, and how do you see your education in engineering contributing to its development and implementation?
Applications submitted without the relevant documentation will not be considered.
The applicant authorises the Selection Committee to make such enquires as to the applicant's good character and suitability to receive the scholarship, which includes authorization for the Selection Committee to examine the applicant's academic record, and seek opinions from relevant members of the academic staff of this University or any other academic institution.
Your application is checked for completeness and eligibility, and you will receive an email confirmation it has been received. After the closing date it will be individually assessed and put forward to a selection committee who will rank your application against others who have applied. Applicants may be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process.
Introduction
The Iplex Education Fund aims to support students at ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø to fill skills gaps in the development of future jobs for Townsville and research to create pathways for school leavers and support a diverse industry future including for Indigenous students.
This scholarship is subject to the provisions of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø’s Coursework Scholarships, Bursaries and Grants Policy.
Value and Payment of the Scholarship

Selection Criteria
The Selection Committee shall, in the exercise of its absolute discretion, afford consideration to the following criteria:
- Academic merit (20%);
- Commitment to study and career goals (30%);
- Response to technical question (50%)

Selection Process
The award of the scholarship shall be made in the absolute discretion of the Selection Committee, which shall comprise:
- Iplex representative (chair), and
- An appropriate pool of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Representatives.
The Selection Committee will determine all matters relating to the selection of the Scholarship awardee.
Ongoing eligibility
To continue to receive payments, the ongoing eligibility must be met:
- The recipient must maintain a course GPA of 4.0 or above.
- The recipient must remain enrolled full-time (minimum 9 credit points per semester).
- Participation in placement/internship program.
- Submission of annual impact report.
Conditions of the Scholarship
- If the recipient defers their study the recipient will no longer be eligible for the award.
- If the holder of the award takes an official leave of absence the award will be terminated
- If the holder of the award does not meet the continuing eligibility requirements, the recipient is required to submit a statement of reasons to be reviewed by Selection Committee for consideration of scholarship extension. Committee may decide not extend scholarship.
A student may lodge a request for review of decision in accordance with the provisions of the Student Complaints Policy and Procedures.
Administration of the Scholarship
The scholarship shall be administered by Scholarships Office of the University, on behalf of the Selection Committee.
The funds of the scholarship shall be held in an account in the name of the University and shall be administered by the scholarship office.
Where an award provides some benefit to the recipient from a body external to the University, or an obligation upon a body external to the University, the University, its servants and agents, shall not be liable for that benefit or obligation.
