George Roberts Hall Accommodation Scholarship – a scholarship that will provide access to a catered accommodation for students from the low socio-economic background. The catered on-campus accommodation simplifies daily life, promotes social connections, and supports student well-being.

The George Roberts Hall Accommodation Scholarship is open for you to apply if you are:
- An Australian citizen.
- A commencing student in the year the scholarship is to be awarded.
- Enrolled full time (min 9 credit points).
- Living on-campus in Townsville at George Roberts Hall.
- Not currently in arrears with your accommodation fees.
- Experiencing financial hardship and need financial assistance to attend university.
If you are a successful applicant of this scholarship you will receive $10,000 in two equal instalments of $5,000 after census dates of study period 2, 2024 and study period 1, 2025. Please allow up to 6 weeks after census date for payment.
Applications must be submitted on the official application form no later than the date set by the Selection Committee for the year in which the award is to be made.
Applicants must submit with the official form, where appropriate:
- Financial hardship documentation
- documented evidence of financial hardship based on your answers in the application questions.
- Copy of your residential agreement confirming you are living on campus at George Roberts Hall.
- Confirmation from George Roberts Hall that your accommodation fees are not in arrears.
- A written statement of no more than 300 words outlining summary about you:
- Who you are, where you're from and your motivation to complete your tertiary studies at ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø.
- The impact receiving this scholarship would have on you and your studies.
Applications submitted without the relevant documentation will not be considered.
The applicant authorises the Selection Committee to make such enquires as to the applicant's good character and suitability to receive the scholarship, which includes authorization for the Selection Committee to examine the applicant's academic record, and seek opinions from relevant members of the academic staff of this University or any other academic institution.
Your application is checked for completeness and eligibility, and you will receive an email confirmation it has been received. After the closing date it will be individually assessed and put forward to a selection committee who will rank your application against others who have applied.

Value and Payment of the Scholarship

Selection Criteria
The Selection Committee shall, in the exercise of its absolute discretion, afford consideration to the following criteria:
- Financial hardship (100%)
- If required, the panel will consider other elements from the application to determine the final recipients.
Application Procedures
Applicants wanting to apply for this scholarship must attach the following documents to their application form.
Financial hardship documentation
- documented evidence of financial hardship based on your answers in the application questions.
- Copy of your residential agreement confirming you are living on campus at George Roberts Hall.
- Confirmation from George Roberts Hall that your accommodation fees are not in arrears.
- A written statement of no more than 300 words outlining summary about you:
- Who you are, where you're from and your motivation to complete your tertiary studies at ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø.
- The impact receiving this scholarship would have on you and your studies.
Selection Process
The award of the scholarship shall be made in the absolute discretion of the Selection Committee, which shall comprise of:
- Head, Divisional Operations; and
- Manager, UniLodge ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Halls of Residence; and
- Director, Student Services.
The Selection Committee will determine all matters relating to the selection of the Scholarship awardee.
Ongoing eligibility
To continue to receive payments, the ongoing eligibility must be met:
- The recipient must maintain a good academic standing.
- The recipient must remain enrolled full-time (minimum 9 credit points per semester).
- The recipient must remain living on-campus at George Roberts Halls Townsville campus.
- The recipient must not be in arrears with their accommodation fees.
Conditions of the Scholarship
- If the recipient defers their study the recipient will no longer be eligible for the award.
- If the holder of the award takes an official leave of absence the award will be terminated.
- If the holder of the award no longer resides at George Roberts Halls the award will be terminated.
- If the holder of the award does not meet the continuing eligibility requirements, the recipient the award will be terminated.
A student may lodge a request for review of decision in accordance with the provisions of the Student Complaints Policy and Procedures.
Administration of the Scholarship
The scholarship shall be administered by Scholarships Office of the University, on behalf of the Selection Committee.
The funds of the scholarship shall be held in an account in the name of the University and shall be administered by the scholarship office.
Where an award provides some benefit to the recipient from a body external to the University, or an obligation upon a body external to the University, the University, its servants and agents, shall not be liable for that benefit or obligation.
