The Wolfe family has been involved in education for generations. Althea’s grandfather taught at one-teacher schools throughout Queensland and her father also began his career as a teacher in very small schools.
Mr J.A. Wolfe went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland, which allowed him to gain position as Science Master and Deputy Principal at high schools around Brisbane. His next position saw the family move to Townsville where he became the foundation Principal at Pimlico State High School.
Whilst Mr Wolfe concluded his career with an administrative position within the education department, many believed his true dedication was to teaching. Althea credits her father’s progress within the Department of Education largely as a result of a scholarship he received immediately port war that allowed him to attend university. It is because of this opportunity provided to her father that Althea is interested in establishing a similar scholarship for students at ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø.
Althea commenced her tertiary education as a foundation student at the University College of Townsville, the predecessor to ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø, before relocating to Brisbane to complete the rest of her studies at the University of Queensland. Althea claims her year at the University College was “by far the most interesting year” of her more “modest tertiary education.”
