Recent Cyclones
Tropical Cyclone Damien (TC Damien) was classified by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) as a Category 3 tropical cyclone and crossed the Pilbara coast of Western Australia near Dampier and Karratha around 3:30 pm on Saturday 8 February 2020. The Cyclone Testing Station (CTS), Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) collaborated to investigate damage. The study focused on the performance of houses; apartments and strata properties; and commercial and public buildings.

Reducing Wind Driven Water Ingress
The following is a guide to reduce wind driven rain water ingress entering through sliding windows and doors, and a study into water damage from cyclones.
Example of cyclone damage - water ingress
Recent Damage Investigations
Recent CTS damage investigations have highlighted problems with flashing details on buildings, leading to water ingress and often significant internal damage. The house on the left has lost a flashing on the windward wall. The Cyclone Testing Station recommends that suppliers of flashing materials ensure that proposed detailing has been fully documented.
