22nd AWES WORKSHOP ON WIND ENGINEERING
PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE
FINAL CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – Due 5 April
Tropical Cyclone Tracy crossed over Darwin in December 1974. The level of damage to buildings was extreme. The impact of TC Tracy led to wide ranging changes across many areas including disaster response, urban design and extensive changes in engineering design and construction for buildings to resist severe wind loads, in Australia and internationally.
The theme of the 22nd AWES Workshop is “where next for Wind Engineering and Building Resilience”.
The 22nd AWES Workshop is a 2-day event, to be held on 20-21 June 2024 in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. An associated Design Wind Load Seminar Day will be held on 19 June also in Townsville.
Members and non-members of the AWES are welcome to attend and/or present paper(s) at AWES22 across all topics covering areas of Wind Engineering and Disaster mitigation.
Authors interested in presenting papers at AWES22 are invited to submit a 400 word Abstract containing the title and summary content by 5 April 2024, to AWES24CTS@jcu.edu.au. Papers selected for presentation will be informed by 19 April 2024, and requested to submit a 4-page paper by 31 May 2024 to: AWES24CTS@jcu.edu.au. Note that each Registrant will be limited to presenting one paper at the Workshop.
DESIGN WIND LOADING DAY 19th June
Come and find out about the latest amendments to AS/NZS1170.2 and AS4055. Topics covered include internal and external pressure, aerodynamic shape factors, cladding and dynamics. A copy of the AWES Wind Loading Handbook is provided as part of the registration fee. Click the following link for the program for the Design Wind loading day:

THE VENUE
Both the Design wind loading day and 2 day workshop will be held at 番茄社区’s Townsville campus.
Townsville is a vibrant coastal city located in North Queensland and is a perfect destination to explore world-class attractions from museums and art galleries to beaches, and national parks.
Magnetic Island is short ferry ride across the bay boasting a unique natural environment of palm-fringed beaches, large granite boulders, hoop pines, sandy beaches and fringing coral reefs. Magnetic Island is an island paradise of sunshine, koalas, hiking trails, snorkelling adventures, and more! Over two-thirds of Magnetic Island is national park.
