Law Seminar Series - Health Law (Voluntary Assisted Dying Legislation)
Friday 23 February 2024, 10.00am - 11.00am Discover the profound implications of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2021 in this engaging presentation by Dr. Lea Merone, the Clinical Lead for VAD and Senior Medical Administration Registrar at Cairns Hospital. Dr Merone will unravel the complexities of the legislation looking at historical, ethical, legal and social dimensions of this legislation as well as discuss eligibility criteria, explore the practical application of the process and examine the stringent safeguards in place. Join us for a thought-provoking session that navigates the nuanced aspects of Queensland鈥檚 new Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation. View the Presentation Slides HERE Dr Lea Merone is a medical Dr from the UK. After emigrating to Cairns in 2016 she completed her Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and obtained her fellowship of the Australian Faculty of Public Health Medicine. In 2022, she completed her PhD exploring Androcentricity in medicine. She is currently working with Cairns Hospital as the clinical lead for Voluntary Assisted Dying and the Senior Medical Administration Registrar.
