番茄社区 'Prep for Prep' Orientation

Welcome to 番茄社区 Prep for Prep - your 番茄社区 Prep Orientation program designed specifically to set commencing students up for success! This week of workshops will introduce you to the program, provide you key information including materials required, give you essential learning tools and strategies, and help you start building connections with your peers.

Participation in the Prep for Prep Orientation Week is required for all students, in order to commence study in Week One.  Sessions are available both online and in person.

Light lunch options are provided across Orientation week. Click the links for your applicable campus below to register and to let us know you are coming!

Monday 9 September

O Week is your first official week of university. It’s a time to celebrate the next exciting chapter of your life and prepare for your academic success. 番茄社区 Jumpstart - A must for all students to attend and to connect with key university stakeholders for valuable resources, tips, and access to essential services to ensure your success.

Join us for a warm welcome to the Prep 4 Prep Orientation Program. We'll introduce the program, share key details, and help you start building connections with your peers.

Tuesday 10 September

Pathways Advisor Study Planning Drop-in Session 
Need help finalizing your subject selections or study plans? Drop in for personalized support from our pathways advisors to ensure your study plan is on track. Cairns students can meet with an advisor for one-on-one guidance.

Thursday 12 September

Technology for Learning 
Learn about the essential technology tools you'll need at university, including how to access Wi-Fi, set up multi-factor authentication, use Office 365, and navigate Learn番茄社区. Tech support will be available to assist.
Study Skills Part 1
Start your academic journey with our first study skills session, focusing on effective study techniques, time management, and learning strategies. This session is designed to help enhance your academic performance.
Study for Maths 
Strengthen your mathematical skills and confidence with a workshop tailored to support your success in math-related subjects. This session will cover effective study methods and problem-solving techniques.
Library Skills -

Maximize your use of library resources with a session on navigating library systems, accessing digital resources, and finding the information you need for your studies. This session will help you become proficient in using the library effectively.

Friday 13 September

Study Skills Part 2 
Build on the foundations laid in the first session by exploring advanced study strategies, critical thinking skills, and approaches to complex assignments. This interactive session will deepen your study skills.
Essential Library Skills and Academic Integrity Modules 
Wrap up the orientation with a session focused on essential library skills and an introduction to academic integrity. Learn how to use library resources effectively and understand the importance of academic honesty in your studies.

Expect a warm welcome, program overview, icebreakers, academic expectations, resources info, guidelines, schedule, parental involvemen t, Q&A, and workshops.

Bring required materials (laptop or writing materials), dress appropriately, complete pre-orientation tasks, review schedule, and come ready to engage and participate.

Yes, register for all Orientation sessions in advance to ensure your spot and receive important materials and updates - /orientation/personalised-orientation-plan

Yes, participation in Prep for Prep is mandatory to benefit fully from the program's academic and support services. This ensures you are prepared for your first week of University study.

Yes, online students must attend Prep for Prep to access essential resources and fully participate in the program.

Yes the sessions will be recorded and available for viewing if you are studying online and are not able to attend live.

A laptop, tablet, or phone if you have one. Pen, paper & water bottle.

If you can’t attend, due to work commitments you won’t be penalised. You will just need to make sure that you view the relevant recordings before starting classes to ensure that you are prepared for study, and if you have any questions you can contact pathways@jcu.edu.au for assistance.
