Loranthus, from the Greek words loros strap or thong and anthos flower, referring to the shape of the perianth parts. Parasitic shrubs, rarely trees, epicortical runners sometimes present; leaves opposite or alternate. Flowers clustered in umbels or in racemes, calyx often reduced to form a rim, corolla with usually 5-6 parts, often yellow, orange or red. Fruit berry-like with a single seed which is surrounded by a viscous or sticky substance, testa absent.
