Course pre-requisites

The course consists of 4 subjects that can be taken  sequentially or stand alone:

  • EAP Level 2

  • EAP Level 3

  • EAP Level 4

  • EAP Level 5

Students’ entry level will be determined by their proven proficiency level as outlined in the table below.

Applicants must demonstrate their current English proficiency through one of the assessments listed in the table below

Academic Requirements for Course Completion

12 – 48 credit points

(Requirements vary according to students’ English proficiency at entry and the English language entry requirements of their destination program.)

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of English for Academic Purposes, graduates will be able to:

  • demonstrate adequate English language proficiency and academic skills  to successfully participate in further study
  • know and apply academic and digital conventions for spoken, written and visual communications
  • identify and apply  academic practices related to researching and referencing
  • demonstrate appropriate listening and reading comprehension for university participation
  • derive literal and interpretive meaning from written, spoken and visual academic texts
  • demonstrate 21st century skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving and multimedia presentation skills
  • comprehend and construct a range of written, spoken and visual academic text types

Course completion requirement

This course consists of 4 subjects that can be taken alone or sequentially.

In order to pass any EAP subject, a student must

  • attain a Pass grade for each of the 4 macro skills (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
  • attempt all of the assessment items.

For all EAP subjects, the passing grade is 50%.

Course Structure

Dependant upon students proficiency at commencement and the language entry requirements of their destination program, students may complete between 10 and 40 weeks of EAP study.
