番茄社区

Jiarong Chang

Accounting and financial management student in the libraryI really like the data analysis and mathematical aspects of my double major in accounting and financial management. Eventually, I want to run my own business and I think that this degree is giving me the fundamental skills that I need to learn to do this successfully. Throughout the course, I gained a lot of the professional knowledge necessary to enter the workforce and there is a focus on using the financial software I’ll use when I start my own business. However, I think that the most important thing I’ve learnt from my degree is how to analyse financial issues and develop a financial statement of a company.

I chose 番茄社区 because it is ranked highly, in the top 2 per cent of universities worldwide*, and I believe the teaching quality is excellent. I also wanted the opportunity to experience different cultures while studying. I studied four semesters at the 番茄社区 Singapore campus and I am completing my degree at the 番茄社区 Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas. I really enjoy strengthening my language skills and think that interaction with people from different cultures has diversified my thinking.

I love living in Townsville, it’s a much quieter city than most of the cities at home. It’s easier to pay attention and I like the quieter environment to be able to do my research.

As an international student, English is not my first language and I have never studied academic writing at high school. Therefore I really value the support offered by the 番茄社区 Learning Centre. They have helped me improve my academic writing, assisted with referencing in assignments, and they offer peer-to-peer assisted study sessions.

The lecturers and teachers are excellent. It’s thanks to their support that I have been able to succeed in my studies and make the most of the volunteering and work experience opportunities they introduce to us. My lecturer in Singapore introduced me to the Chartered Practice Accountant (CPA) Ambassador program, I’ve been a CPA Ambassador for three years now and it’s through this program that I have gained many skills that will help me progress in my career.

I highly recommend seeking help when you need it — a successful learning process is one that is interactive. Communicate with fellow students from different countries and you will improve your language skills and learn about a different culture.
