Getting Started - the Essentials

Let's get started

At 番茄社区, Off-Campus refers to students who are studying online or externally, as well as students at our smaller study centres who access support services remotely.

Regardless of where you live or what you study, we know you are looking for flexibility, support, and quality learning and teaching. Studying at university can be a rewarding but challenging experience, and you will enjoy the same access to support and resources as those studying at a main campus.

New students must activate their enrolment, and the steps are the same, whether you are an off-campus or on-campus student. Visit the New Students website to get started.

Need help to plan or enrol in your subjects?

Simply email enquiries@jcu.edu.au or call 1800 246 446, or search ‘enrolment’ in Ask Us.

For enrolment steps and online help videos, see Enrolment in the Students website.

GetReady4Uni is 番茄社区’s online orientation program, consisting of six short, self-paced modules designed to help you transition into university and thrive. We recommend that new students complete them prior to Orientation Week to optimise your success.

For students living in or near Townsville or Cairns, it may be helpful to visit the Campuses and Maps website to familiarise yourself with services and facilities available close to you.

Orientation information is available online at GetReady4Uni.  Emails are also sent to your student email address with information specifically for you, so please check regularly as soon as you have accepted your offer.

To help you settle into university life work through the Transition to Uni module and complete the New Student Checklists.

There are support options available to help you with the cost of studying at university. See Fees and Financial Support to find out more about the types of fees you have to pay, essential dates and options to help manage your expenses.

Let's get ready

If you are new to 番茄社区, please complete the online Orientation modules at GetReady4Uni.

Some courses will also require you have a student ID card to arrange a professional placement.

For details, see the Student ID Card website.

Most subjects will require you to purchase at least one textbook, and you can find the prescribed list in your Subject Outline via Learn番茄社区.

Textbooks can be purchased online from . Their academic experts have matched your course to the books you need and you can search by course code, or use the form to select the courses you are enrolled in to see your course materials. Double check this against the list in your Subject Outline.

Second-hand textbooks are also available online at , but make sure that you buy the correct edition, as information is regularly updated.

Some editions can be borrowed through the 番茄社区 Library, see the section on Library Services for more information.
