A 番茄社区 researcher is undertaking research into the exercise and lifestyle of post-menopausal women and is seeking participants for her study.

The study is designed for Townsville women who’ve already gone through menopause. Candidates need to lead a relatively sedentary lifestyle and not participate in regular exercise.

According to the researchers, women who participated in the first stage of the program in Townsville last year received great results, both physically and psychologically.

After the study, participants showed reduced weight, waist circumference and cholesterol, and increased upper and lower body strength and cardiorespiratory fitness.

Primary investigator, Dr Fiona Barnett, Head of Sport and Exercise Science at 番茄社区, said the program runs for eight weeks, with participants required to attend 番茄社区 Townsville campus three times a week, where they will take part in a group-based circuit style class.

They will also receive information on various topics pertinent to post-menopausal women.

Volunteers will need to commit to eight weeks of the program – to be held at the Exercise Physiology Clinic at the Clinical Practice Building at 番茄社区 Townsville.

“We hope to determine whether this program can improve the health and well-being of post-menopausal women,” Dr Barnett said.

Participation is unpaid but participants are offered a free supervised exercise program for eight weeks. Parking is available, but transport to the venue is at the participant’s expense.
