番茄社区’s leading anthropologists and its anthropology program were showcased at the 112th American Anthropologists Association (AAA) Annual meeting in Chicago in the United States recently.

Professor Rosita Henry, from 番茄社区’s Department of Anthropology, Archaeology and Sociology, said 番茄社区 was invited to profile aspects of research and the teaching program conducted by the university’s leading anthropologists and archaeologists in a five-minute documentary-style film.

Professor Henry said the film was featured in Anthropology TV, an on-site conference television channel.

“番茄社区’s prominent anthropologists and archaeologists, including Professor Alexandra Aikhenvald, Associate Professor Sean Ulm, Dr Theresa Petray, Dr Nigel Chang, as well as myself, were interviewed for the film,” she said.

“They spoke of the various and varying field work projects that are presently being conducted by 番茄社区.

“They also spoke of our highly praised work with the Aboriginal communities in Northern Australia, as well as our work in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Professor Henry said AAA was a world-class association and its annual meeting brought together anthropologists from across the globe.

This year its program featured approximately 800 scholarly sessions, 200 special events, and 60 exhibitors under the theme Future Publics, Current Engagements, she said.

“AAA partnered with international film and broadcasting company WebsEdge to bring Anthropology TV to this year’s AAA Annual Meeting,” she said.

“The onsite conference channel was screened online, around the venue, as well as on a dedicated television channel in selected guest hotel rooms.

“This venture served to raise the visibility of the hard work of our anthropologists and archaeologists and provided an opportunity to learn about the complex questions engaging our community today and the leading edge research that is improving lives.”
