About the Presenter

David Forbes is a highly experienced barrister with over 20 years of practice in commercial and equity law. David holds a B.Com (Hons) in Economics, LL.B., and LL.M. from the University of Melbourne. He was admitted to practice in 1991 and commenced his career at Freehill Hollingdale & Page. After joining the Victorian Bar in 1996, he was admitted to practice in Queensland in 2017, where he has been practicing in Townsville since then. Throughout his career, David has appeared in numerous trials and appeals in various courts, including the Supreme Court of Victoria, Court of Appeal, County Court of Victoria, Federal Court, Federal Circuit Family Court, District Court Queensland, and Supreme Court of Queensland.

David’s extensive legal career encompasses a wide range of matters, including contracts, leases, real property, insolvency, money claims, and misleading and deceptive conduct. His expertise extends to various commercial disputes, from ex parte freezing orders to appeals in the Full Federal Court. In recent years, David has focused on agricultural disputes, dealing with issues such as oppression claims within agricultural co-operatives, partnership disputes, proprietary estoppel claims, and family farm matters. He has demonstrated particular proficiency in handling complex and document-intensive cases, expert evidence, and insolvency-related issues.
