The Bachelor of Pharmacy has expanded its program, which was only being offered in Townsville, to include Cairns and Mackay as well.

Head of Pharmacy at 番茄社区, Associate Professor John Smithson explained: “We  expanded our program in response to the local shortage of pharmacists and the need to improve health access for the communities in our region."

The Cairns program proved to be particular popular, with all 24 available spots filled.

A study published last year found two thirds of 番茄社区 Pharmacy graduates from regional, rural or remote areas ended up working in those areas, helping to address the shortage of health professionals outside of major cities.
