·¬ÇÑÉçÇø was the first Australian university to offer a full tourism degree, in a formally constituted Department of Tourism. In 1989 Professor Philip Pearce, the first Professor of Tourism in Australia, was appointed to lead the department. Since then the department has worked closely with international industry partners, national tourism industry bodies and several airlines.
