Jan Strugnell became the first 番茄社区 student to obtain a prestigious Rhodes scholarship tenable at Oxford University, UK. Jan studied Marine Biology and Aquaculture at 番茄社区 and went on to complete her DPhil at Oxford on octopus, squid and cuttlefish genetics. Subsequently Jan worked as a researcher at Cambridge University, the British Antarctic Survey and Queens University Belfast.

She is now based back at 番茄社区 where she is the Director of the Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture.
