The Daintree Rainforest Observatory was opened. It is located just south of Cape Tribulation approximately 2 hours drive north of Cairns in a World Heritage Area. The area is home to over  500 plant species, 700 vertebrate species and the only rainforest canopy crane in the southern hemisphere.
